At a time when we are saturated daily with colour images, both numerically and the strength of colour, portraying subjects in a level of detail that leaves little to the imagination, I favour shooting in black and white. Whilst colour photographs will undoubtedly record the subject in its every detail, black and white focuses on capturing the essence of the subject and the emotion that underpins it. For me, black and white images are more subtle, presenting the subject in its simplest form, devoid of clutter and distraction, inviting you to complete the picture and the story for yourself, and in doing so enabling you to create a very personal interpretation of, and connection with what you see.
